Fear…give in or give it over

As we prepare for the celebration of the birth of our Saviour, Jesus, I read of each person involved in His birth. I see how Mary could have chosen to give in to fear over trust in the Lord when the angel came to tell her she would be impregnated by the Holy Spirit. Joseph could have chosen to give in to fear when the angel assures him that his virgin fiancé was pregnant. The shepherds in the field could have chosen to give in to fear when the angel came to bring them the good news about the Savior’s birth. I am comforted by the fact that each one of these people’s human default response was fear. Yet when they were told not to fear by an angel of the Lord (Luke 1:30, Matthew 1:20, Luke 2:10), they chose to give their fear over to the Lord and walk in His plan.

Just a short four letters of consonants and vowels strung together, yet the chosen response is profound. What do you do with it? The answer to this question determines your outcome. Do you give in to the fear, therefore giving it victory over you or do you give the fear over to the Lord to gain the victory over it? I ask these questions daily as I walk this journey of life. By the grace of God, beginning to see the bondage my fears have kept me tangled in. As the Lord makes me aware of my fears, I have to choose my response. Do I continue stuffing the fear back down or expose it to the Light of God’s word? I’d love to say that I always chose the latter, however the reality is that my human default response is the former. Growth is a process of little steps. So I continue day by day to keep stepping into the Light with my fears. Hence, the birthing of this blog. I’ve always wanted to write about our life and Biblical life applications the Lord lays on my heart, but I have always found one reason or another not to commit to it, until today. The Lord has been stirring my heart for some time to share, so here I am, looking expectantly to what He will do in and through me in the process.
